THE BELLY FILES
MATERNITY FASHION’S HOTTEST HOUSES TALK SHOP-PING

Looking and feeling pretty, oh so pretty, isn’t always easy when your belly is a-swelling. A lot of times
mamas-to-be resort to oversized (read: frumpy) clothes (read: their husband’s), feeling as out of touch
with the latest styles and how to wear them as they do with their growing bodies.

THE FAMILY GROOVE is here to say that you don’t have to sacrifice style for the next nine-plus months—
and you don’t have to spend a fortune to stay stylish, either. Each month, we’ll give you the skinny on the
hippest bump styles à la mode straight from the fashion experts who created them.

Belly Files September 08

Emilia Fabricant, founder and head designer of the trendsetting Cadeau Maternity and president of babystyle, wants mamas-to-be
to fall back into the looks of the season. Here, she talks fab fabrics, hot European-inspired trends, retro prints and more.

THE SCOOP

This fall, it’s all about the look and feel of luxe. Inspired by fabrics from Milan and Paris, the clothes are cleaner than before and highlight varied looks, from ladylike retro ’60s chic to the newest Ponte fabrics to mod and geographic prints to long and lean silhouettes courtesy of ’70s-inspired wide-leg jeans. You’ll see a lot of rich, saturated hues; brilliant jewel-tone colors; cropped swing outerwear; and oh-so-cozy sweaters that wrap you in luxury.

At Cadeau and babystyle, we fit for the maternity body, paying special attention to where a woman’s body grows: upper arms, bust, hips and thighs. Fashioned for the modern woman who refuses to part with her sense of style during pregnancy, Cadeau and babystyle offer luxurious and sophisticated looks from the contemporary market.

KEY LOOKS
Sweaters are hot. Go for cozy knits, sweater dresses, waffle knits, cowl- and mock necks, tunics, V-necks, wraps and shawls.
Styles that are swingin’. Look fall fabulous in ’60s-inspired crops, three-quarter sleeves and mock necks in coats and dresses.
Detail, details, details. Spruce up your wardrobe with pleats, shirring, ruching, hand smocking, pin tucks and button detailing.
Prints rule. Do retro-style dresses and tops in geometric, mod and bold graphics.
Show your colors. Shine in rich jewel tones like plum, merlot and emerald green. Charcoal, purples, camel, chocolate and black continue to be strong this season, too.
Get into fabrics. Modal, stretch silk, cashmere, wool and new Ponte fabrication are all the rage.
