Clearly you’re not alone when it comes to disliking the shape of your nose: almost 300,000 rhinoplasty procedures were performed in the United States last year, and according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, rhinoplasty was the second most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in 2005.
There are some contouring and shading makeup tricks and techniques that the pros use to make the nose appear somewhat smaller. “It may sound complex, but it's so easy—anyone can do it,” says Ashunta Sheriff, a makeup artist for Dior Beauty. She recommends beginning by dipping a crease brush (like one used to deposit eyeshadow into the crease of your eyelid) into a powder bronzer that does not contain sparkle. Start at the inside corner of your eye and follow to the outer edge of the bridge of the nose, ending at the tip and then finish by dabbing a bit of bronzer on the very tip of the nose. “I also like to add a light shimmer down the center of the bridge and the inner corner of the eyes,” she says, noting that this technique helps draw attention to the eyes and away from the nose.
Something you might consider trying involves seeing a doctor, but is a non-surgical alternative. New York City Cosmetic Dermatologist Dr. Cameron Rokhsar has begun performing what he calls the “Non-Surgical 15 Minute Nose Job.” Using Radiesse, a cosmetic dermal filler that was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the long-lasting correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, Dr. Rokhsar contours the shape of the nose, camouflaging nasal irregularities like bumps or sideway deviations of the bridge of the nose, to achieve a more symmetric look. The procedure requires no downtime and just a few quick injections to instantly give patients the nose they have always wanted. The procedure, including time to allow a topical numbing cream to take effect, takes roughly an hour and costs about $1,500. This produce immediate results which last from one to two years.
