KIDS' PARTY PLANNER LISA KOTHARI GIVES YOU THE SCOOP ON A GOOD
OLD-FASHIONED ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Ice Cream Party

WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM PARTY IDEAS!

'Tis the season for ice cream—so why not celebrate your little
one's birthday by throwing him or her a cool ice cream social?
Affordable, fun and guaranteed to make 'em smile, an ice cream
social is easy to put together.

Here's the scoop:

DECORATIONS

Create a festive balloon ice cream cone by bunching several balloons together. Use brown balloons for the cone and different colors for the different flavors of the ice cream. Another way to make balloons look like ice cream cones, and have a centerpiece for your party table, is to attach helium-filled balloons to party hats.

Make a sign welcoming your guests to your child’s “Ice Cream Parlor.”

Place old-fashioned stick candy in brightly colored pails as an additional decoration for the party table—and a bonus treat!

Match your tableware to the ice cream colors you choose. Or, if you choose a plain white tablecloth, further decorate by either spreading ice cream cone cutouts all over it, or by drawing an ice cream parlor on it.

Play some old-fashioned ice cream parlor music to get your guests in the mood of the party theme as they arrive. Think: doo-wop, barber shop, etc.

FOOD

A make-your-own sundae bar is the way to go. Include a variety of toppings, like chocolate sauce, cherries, caramel, bananas, sprinkles, gummies, etc. Put out cones so kids can make "Creamy Cones," ice cream sundaes in cones, topped with extra helpings of delicious whipped cream.

ACTIVITIES

Play a version of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" where you pin a cherry on a sundae or an ice cream cone.

Organize a game for the adults where they match the Ben and Jerry’s flavors to their names. This could be challenging!

Make paper soda hats.

Have an ice cream eating contest!

FAVORS

Buy some vintage sundae cups at a thrift store and fill them with Baskin-Robbins flavored candies. Add a Pixy Stix candy as a straw for the ice cream soda.

Ice cream socials and birthday parties are sure to be a huge hit with all of your guests. Plus, they're easy to pull off, inexpensive and unique. Happy scooping!
