Here, Sarah Conley Odenkirk, founder of Petite Miette, gives you a few bites of her latest collection. 

“I started Petite Miette in 2007 with the goal of creating an environmentally and socially conscious company. After more than a dozen years of building a successful law practice as a lawyer for the fine arts, I decided it was time to pursue my own creative venture. Concerned for the environmental circumstances in which all children are being raised and seeking interesting organic baby products for my own children, I sought inspiration from the colorful and stylish children’s clothing that I had seen during my time living in France. I set out to design a line that was environmentally conscious without sacrificing aesthetics or sophistication. I also made (and make!) a concerted effort to ensure that my business practices emphasize earth-friendly choices and fair labor practices.

In keeping with my desire to build a business with warm soul, I chose a name for the company that recalled my college days of living in the south of France. There, I became close friends with a French couple who had a pet rabbit named Miette. Enchanted by the sound of the rabbit’s name, I asked if it had a particular meaning. After a long and hilarious discussion involving breads and cakes, I finally understood that the name “Miette” meant “crumb.”

Almost 20 years later, the rabbit is long gone, but the friendship endures and continues to be a source of joy—which is what I hope my company and its well-intentioned baby and toddler accessories will be for parents worldwide. All items are designed with the utmost attention to comfort and style. Designs combine simple elegance, soft fabrics and unique colors to offer convenient, modern and sustainable products.
