At THE FAMILY GROOVE, we say: “Think Global, GET IT Local.” It’s our mission to deliver
the groove
right to your doorstep—or computer screen, as it were. In TFG’s global village,
local stores share the
stage with national and international ones. Each month TFG will
introduce you to regional retailers
who have got it going on.

There are kids’ clothes that you think are cool, and then there are kids’ clothes you covet and wish that you could wear. We covet the absolutely elegant, slightly retro, yet oh-so-modern styles of Ferd. When you see the clothes, you get it. The vibe is palpable and the look undeniable. These gorgeous, scene-stealing, picture-making designs are created by Jennifer Connaughton, a mom who decided to venture into children’s wear after the birth of her son. Brave, huh? Here, she gives us her favorite five items from her current line.
THE BOY’S SHIRT
“Made from a very soft Italian striped knit, this shirt has an understated, funky and cool look that any little boy can rock.”

THE SHORTS
“The thing that is great about this short is the cool clasp and tie detail. Kids love it! Soft and lightweight, this pair of shorts comes in brown denim, navy denim and a navy pincord (pictured).”

THE TOP
“This perfect little top is a must-have. It’s lightweight and just plain beautiful; we think it speaks for itself, really. It’s available in green paisley (pictured) and blue florette print.”

THE SUMMER DRESS
“There is only one thing to say: It’s the dress of the season! It is so easy to wear—just slip it on and tie for an oh-so-pretty and sweet summer look! Available in blue florette (pictured) and green paisley.”

THE FALL DRESS
“This is a definite must-have for fall 2009. Available in August, it has such a beautiful silhouette and is available in gorgeous liberty prints. It’s soft, so easy to wear and very versatile. Whether it’s worn with boots or over tights with a ballet slipper, your baby girl will look darling!”

What the heck does "Special Section" mean? Well, it means that these businesses paid a small (like, pretty darn small) fee to be included. THE FAMILY GROOVE strives to support mom and pop businesses by giving them a venue for their super cool sites, ideas and products—and, quite honestly, we strive to pay our bills, too. So we've taken seven articles a month (out of 25+) and made them fun and exciting ways to promote the next best thing, much like in the way a publicist would. We believe in the companies we feature. We research, vet, scrutinize, analyze and obsess over every single solitary company that is included in this section to bring you the grooviest of the groovy. We're all in this brave new world together, right? And so we've got to support each other in any and every way we can. We hope you dig our finds as much as we do.
