A VALENTINE'S SLUMBER PARTY
Tween girls, delight! This party's for you! And, actually, it just might be for you, Mom—if you don't mind staying up all night. Hey, some unbridled quality time with your daughter and her friends might just be the catalyst that brings your relationship to a new level. Well, for a few hours until those hormones start to rage again.
Sans a young lady in your midst? Throw your junior junior-miss a faux slumber party that takes place in the early evening minus the all-night stay but with all the girls-just-wanna-have-fun fun.
For a fabulously sweet slumber party, check out these ideas:
THE DECORATIONS
Given that you have the entire night (or a good portion of it, at least, if it's a faux slumber party), you can make the decorations during the party. Keep it simple: Purchase balloons, red and pink construction paper, glitter glue, markers, pipe cleaners and cotton balls. Your guests can create valentines, blow up balloons, and make paper chains and cupids to decorate your home.
THE ACTIVITIES
Play a game of Valentine's Day–related charades.
For the younger set, make up a romantic story or a fairy tale. Then, pass out crayons or pencils to each guest. Start with the heroine: Have the group decide on her name. From there, fold the paper and pass it on to the first girl and have her come up with the name of the hero. She'll pass it on to the next girl, who will come up with the beginning, and it will go from there. Ask each girl to come up with a different plot point (boy meets girl, their first words, how they fall in love, how they are pulled apart, how they reunite, etc.). Make sure to have each guest fold the paper down after she has written her part. After the story is done, open the entire piece of paper and read it aloud.
With a box of conversation hearts, have the group make the longest sentence they can out of the candies.
Dance! Play some fun music and let the girls dance the night away. Got a karaoke machine? Now's the perfect time to bust it out.
Just say spa! Set up makeshift manicure, pedicure and facial stations. The girls will love pampering each other.
Set up an obstacle course and have the girls walk through it in a pair of your high heels. Just make sure that this activity is supervised, so that no one gets hurt.
Instead of musical chairs, play musical sleeping bags.
Watch some heartwarming romantic comedies. Let the kids choose—from an age-appropriate selection, of course.
THE MENU
Serve mini heart-shaped pizzas for dinner. The kids can cut ready-made pizza dough into the shape of a heart, place their favorite toppings on it and bake.
Enjoy a full evening of chocolate, with chocolate fondue, chocolate-dipped pretzels, hot chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, and small boxes of chocolates.
If you're going the movie route, serve popcorn with a variety of toppings, including cinnamon and sugar. Yummy!
In the morning, whip up a batch of heart-shaped pancakes served with strawberry syrup and a cup of fruit on the side.
THE GOODY BAGS
Send the guests home with pink and red lip gloss, nail polish, hand soap, facial scrub, chocolates and bubble bath placed into a small red personalized pail.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
