My husband and I love modern furniture—our house is filled with it. We’ve had no problem finding modern nursery furniture, but we are having a hard time finding reasonably priced modern high chairs. Do they exist? —Alli, New York, NY
Mutsy's Easy Grow High ChairKuster's K2 High ChairModern high chairs that won’t empty your wallet do exist, and believe it or not, they’re as functional as they are fun to look at. One of my personal favorites is Mutsy’s Easy Grow High Chair ($199, www.barebabies.com). Of course, it’s got a fun, funky design and is available in all sorts of cool colors, but what’s even cooler is that its seat and footrest can be easily adjusted to perfectly fit your child as he grows. Begin using it as a traditional high chair, and then as your child grows, it can be used as a toddler seat and then as a transitional chair until he or she is about 12 years old. Another great option is Küster’s K2 High Chair ($175, www.moderntots.com). Ergonomically designed and easy to clean, it too will grow with the needs of your child (it’s suitable from around 6 months, or when your baby can sit unaided, until around 6 years of age). And like the Easy Grow, it will also allow your child to sit right up at the dinner table without the tray.

I’ve hit a recipe rut. Can you recommend some good, relatively easy-to-follow cookbooks? —Kate, Stowe, VT
Back to Basics: Fabulous Flavor from Simple Ingredients I am a huge fan of the cookbooks by Ina Garten, Food Network star and founder of the Barefoot Contessa empire. They’re simple, so if you’ve got only basic cooking skills, you won’t be overwhelmed. Additionally, they don’t call for all sorts of pricey, fancy, hard-to-find ingredients, so you can almost always whip up her dishes quickly and economically. Garten’s latest, Back to Basics: Fabulous Flavor from Simple Ingredients, offers recipes for easy, flavorful food (think Lobster Corn Chowder, Tuscan Lemon Chicken and Easy Sticky Buns) you’ll make for years to come. Pick it up for $21 at www.amazon.com.

The product I’m loving this month:

Scotch-Brite’s Ultra NailSaver Absorbent Scrub Sponges

Scotch-Brite Ultra NailSaver Absorbent Scrub Sponge

When I realized my manicures were barely lasting a few days, I set out on a James Bond–esque mission of discovering the culprit. Was my trusty nail place actually totally crappy? Was I typing too hard on my laptop? Did I need to use Super Glue as my topcoat? As it turned out, what was actually sabotaging my varnished fingers was frequent dish scrubbing. Thankfully, my pal Dana tipped me off about this miraculous little invention: a scrubbing sponge with grooved gripping edges that allow your nails to rest comfortably and protected while you clean away. Now I’ve got clean dishes and pretty hands. Yeah! ($2.19, www.drugstore.com)
