HOLIDAY GO LIGHTLY
MAKEUP ARTIST TO THE STARS ALISON RAFFAELE TATEM SHOWS US HOW TO CELEBRATE
THE SEASON'S BEST LOOK

Ladies, we got real lucky this year: the look of the season is light, easy and works for everyone. Basically, it involves
using a matte, medium gray eyeshadow all over the lid and into the crease; highlighting under the brow with a pale
champagne or silver color and lining the eye with a bronze or navy liner. Here's the breakdown:

holiday go lightly

Acceptance. Yes, you can wear gray eyeshadow. Most people associate the color gray with the blue-based versions of the color, which looks best on blue-eyed blonds. However, brown-based grays are extremely flattering on everyone. The trick is to find a hue that looks like the natural shading on your eyelids. So the deeper your skin tone, the deeper the gray should be.
Action. If you are on a beauty budget for the season, the matte, brown-based gray shadow should be your big purchase. Less expensive matte eyeshadows will not have the blend-ability or high pigment load of a better quality product. Plus, this is a timeless color that will become a staple in your makeup kit. On the other hand, a champagne or silver shimmer shadow from the drugstore should work just fine. And if you don’t have a bronze eyeliner, try using a brown one, then applying a bit of the champagne shimmer on top with an angled liner brush. Smudge the two layers together for the same effect. You can do the same with a navy liner and silver shimmer, too.
All done. Finish with two coats of mascara, a pretty pink blush and a lipgloss and you are good to go. This soft, yet sophisticated look is perfect because it's quick to apply, easy to maintain and looks as good with jeans and a cashmere sweater as it does a little black dress—aaaaah, who says you can’t have it all?

FAKE IT 'TIL YOU MAKE IT: HOW TO LOOK GOOD IN A JIFFY

Here are four things every busy mom can do right now to up her everyday gorgeous:

1. Find a concealer that matches your skintone, provides full coverage and blends easily. Nothing makes you look worse that dark under eye circles and blotchy skin. Finding a concealer that works for you should be beauty priority number one. (You'll thank me for this one.)
2 and 3. Get a haircut that looks good with minimal effort and have your eyebrows professionally shaped. The haircut is an obvious must; however, well-groomed eyebrows can do more for your eyes than you ever imagined.
4. Keep your nails short, round in shape, and your cuticles moisturized. If you’re a hands-on kind of mom, short, unpolished, buffed nails are far more neat and clean in appearance than broken and chipped ones. As a bonus, short, buffed nails are a snap to throw a coat or two of polish on for a night out on the town.

And remember, taking good care of yourself will enable you to take better care of everyone (and everything) else. So take care, and enjoy doing so.
