Acne, weird hair in even weird places, swollen ankles, stretch marks, varicose veins, wacko-big boobs—yeah, most of us are not ready for our close-up, especially toward the end of this 40-week gig.
Our best advice is to drink lots of water, continue to exercise (as long as your doctor says it's coolio), eat as healthfully as you can, get lots of rest and just chill out about the ch-ch-ch-changes that are happening to your once and former body (and mind). It'll all be worth it once the bebe is born and most of what is happening to you eventually goes away...for the most part.
(And then new stuff happens that freaks you out but we won't get into that right now.)
One such oh-so lovely preggers condition is called chloasma. Yuck. Even the name sounds icky—pregnancy skin conditions need an image makeover stat.
Here's a tip from one of our favorite maternity world mamas, Tara Bloom (see: you probably like her already because of her happy name), owner of the mom-to-be mecca that is Maternitique.com
"About 70 percent of moms-to-be will develop chloasma, aka dark, brown patches of skin.
It’s called “the mask of pregnancy” because it often affects the face. To minimize your risk, use a pregnancy-safe, barrier sunscreen."
So, if you're with-bun and want to put your best face forward, just scoop up some all-natural sunscreen (like this one from Belli), slather it on and, uh, eh, well, hope for the best.
