Training Day

February 24th, 2011
I am just now getting back on track with potty training my two-and-a-half year. I actually started the process months ago but allowed it to derail at every turn. It's not him either; it's me. It's totally me. I really just have to hunker down and do this thing (or at least that's what I tell myself several times a day, as I try to psyche myself into the required focus and dedication these kind of milestones take to accomplish). Me to me: I'll just ease in it. Let me gear up for it. I'll get there. Well, my easy-gearing phase came to a full-on stop when I got the application for Junior's camp in the mail the other day. Said application pointed out that all littles must be potty trained. Umm... do they mean fully potty trained? How 'bout on the road to it or almost or just about? Because that's what I was aiming for. Egads! I've got to fast-track this thing! Okay, rewind to potty training my daughter—which I can barely find in my mind's eye but do recall a similar brand of panic and desperation as the pervasive tone of the months-long event. Ooh, hold up. Pause. Fast-forward just a bit; I think I see something in all that haze. Yes. I remember buying her undies and how such a big-girl thing helped to pique her interest. Phew. Okay. So, I picked up these organic cotton potty training pants from BabiesArePriceless.com, a one-stop shop for organic baby clothes, gift and gear. They come in packs of three and in sizes ranging from 12 months to five years old and multiple color combinations. According to the site, they "The potty training pants are made with medium weight jersey knit, and soft rib knit binding on legs. The center panel of the organic training pants is 4 layers in the crotch area for great absorbency." And as soon as these magical undies arrive, my training days will officially commence. For real. And I mean it this time. (I think.) For more baby must-haves, go to www.babiesarepriceless.com.

And the Papers Want to Know Whose Onesies You Wear

July 13th, 2010
A Baby's World has really made the grade with their line of organic wee-one essentials. The collections are super age-appropriate (aka irony-free—which is a welcomed respite from the tongue-in-cheek-laden, mini-hipster threads that are so popular today, they're almost not cool anymore) with sweetly simple names like Rocket Man, Howdy Partner, Dancing Bear, Sea Turtle and Little Charmers for boys and Dancing Bunny and Butterfly Dreams for girls. Simple and sans irony—why, these little duds might be the very last bastion of unintentionally old-school innocence left. To scoop up some for your space man or fairy princess, go to www.ababysworld.com

What You Need

June 29th, 2010
So, I just went looked up the lyrics to "What You Need" by INXS—as if I had to say "by INXS," right? Yeah, well, apparently, I did because some dude named Taio Cruz has a song called "What You Need" too. Man, that makes me feel old. I kind of know who Taio Cruz is because I caught an episode of "The Hills" and they played his song "Break Your Heart" over a bird's eye montage of a pristine and oh-so appealing Los Angeles. (By the way, a well-chosen song it was. Damn you, Brody, you heartbreaker, you!). Without further ado or lamenting on how 34 feels like 74 lately: Hey, here is the story Forget about the trouble in life Don't you know, it's not easy When you gotta walk upon that line That's why - You need That's why - This is what you need I'll give you what you need Don't you get sad and lonely You need a change from What you do all day Ain't no sense in all your crying Just pick it up and throw it into shape Hey you, won't you listen This is not the end of it all Don't you see there is a rhythm I'll take you where you Really need to be Quite apropos to a mom's life, huh? And it's also the segue into some good scoop: WhatEveryBabyNeeds.com is offering 25% off  all regularly priced items this week! Score. What Every Baby Needs Organic Baby Clothes What does every baby need, you ask? Stuff. Lots of stuff. That’s what every baby needs.
