So, how green are you? You clean green, you cook green and you dress green but do you glass green?
Whether it's a jar set to hold baking flour and sugar, votives for candles (eco-friendly ones, natch), a vase for your freshly picked flowers or a statement piece fruit bowl, why not green your glass routine?
is a green glass one-stop-shop with an impressive selection of elegant-meets-useful home decor items—all affordable and all eco-friendly.
Here we talk to Lorrie and Ron Durbin, owners of EuroGlassware, about why using recycled glass is so important, their artisan glassware makers and what's in store for the future.
THE FAMILY GROOVE: Being eco-friendly is no longer an option; it's a must. When you know better, you have to do better. I love how you've fused green with gorgeous (some of those bottles, bowls, candle holders and even jars are works of art). Is green a passion of yours or did the allure of these pretty things call you to start your business?
Lorrie and Ron Durbin: We strive to live greener and we love the rich depth of color these glass products have. When we found out these are all made from recycled glass, we felt this is a product we needed to share and promote.
TFG: Why is recycling glass so important?
The Durbins: The importance of recycling glass not only conserves the environment but it also saves energy. The process required to produce glass is quite simple as it is composed of sand, soda, lime and a lot of heat. The obvious benefits of recycling glass is to reuse and save our natural resources but the most important benefit of recycled glass is that it requires considerably less energy than that which is needed to melt raw materials.
TFG: I love the hanging and stand glass and metal vases that you offer on the site. What inspires your design aesthetic?
The Durbins: We don’t design the products. Our supplier has artisans who are inspired by the everyday beauty of nature and the glassware they are pairing it with.
TFG: How do you choose what to sell?
The Durbins: We try to sell the more colorful and unique items, but we also have to offer what is popular and versatile, so we offer about 90% of the full line of products available.
TFG: What is your proudest moment as a business owner?
The Durbins: For my husband, it is the fresh look for our website. He has put many hours into designing it and to see what it has become is amazing. (But he won’t say that.) For me, it is that I can work from home and spend time with our family. We both like seeing our products used and enjoyed in so many ways.
TFG: What exciting things are on the horizon?
The Durbins: While we don’t have a crystal ball (ha ha), we see more variety in the products. We are also planning to offer some enhanced or related services and products for our glass bottles and jars. We have a few other ideas in the works for our customers who use our glass.
