MATERNITY FASHION’S HOTTEST HOUSES TALK SHOP-PING

THE FAMILY GROOVE is here to say that you don’t have to sacrifice style for the next
nine-plus months—and you don’t have to spend a fortune to stay stylish, either.
Each month, we’ll give you the skinny on the hippest bump styles à la mode straight
from the fashion experts who created them.

Belly Files August 09

There’s no one prouder on the planet than a proud grandmother. Anita Dimmock,
grandmother to a now 4-year-old, was so inspired by the birth of her granddaughter
that she opened www.mind-thebump.com. And, of course, she uses her little joy as a
model on her site. We found her story—and her store—interesting because of her unique
perspective, having had her children some 30 years ago when, as she puts it, “maternity
wear was a necessary evil.” Here, Anita gives us her personal and professional take on
dressing up your baby bump and gives you her tips on how to mind your fashion for the big 40 weeks and beyond.

Mind-The-Bump logo“The maternity clothes today don’t resemble anything that our mothers or I wore. When I was pregnant, I often wore something that resembled a tent dress or a loose top with pants, which made me look bigger than I actually was. One just did not show off her round shape. Nowadays, moms-to-be are much more concerned with flaunting it from the moment we find that they’re pregnant.

The modern mom-to-be wants the adoring glances she received before this magical journey began. She wants to be as fashionable as her friend who isn’t pregnant. She wants to wear items such as capri pants, skirts, dresses and jeans. She wants to dress in luxurious fabrics like lace, silk and fine cottons.

For most women, the most stylish maternity clothes solution is to wear stretchy tops and jeans or a nice shirt until the day comes when her waist and bust have outgrown the clothes she is wearing and she must now face the inevitable and visit either a maternity store or website.

But why wait? Maternity fashion is flush with designer styles that can take you from little bump to big bump to postpartum bump (yes, there’s still a bit of bump there for a while). My online boutique carries a wide choice of pregnancy wear must-haves—everything from T-shirts and jeans for a casual look to chic designer tops and glamorous dresses for special occasions.

Now, let’s talk trends!

The Dresses

A classy, sexy dress makes its mark and is a wonderful way to show off your figure this fall and holiday season. If you’ve got it, flaunt it! Don’t hide that beautiful baby bump. Bump-hugging dresses are the way to go.

What the heck does "Special Section" mean? Well, it means that these businesses paid a small (like, pretty darn small) fee to be included. THE FAMILY GROOVE strives to support mom and pop businesses by giving them a venue for their super cool sites, ideas and products—and, quite honestly, we strive to pay our bills, too. So we've taken seven articles a month (out of 25+) and made them fun and exciting ways to promote the next best thing, much like in the way a publicist would. We believe in the companies we feature. We research, vet, scrutinize, analyze and obsess over every single solitary company that is included in this section to bring you the grooviest of the groovy. We're all in this brave new world together, right? And so we've got to support each other in any and every way we can. We hope you dig our finds as much as we do.
