MOM ON THE STREET
MOM-TO-MOM ADVICE ON LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF YOUR OWN GROOVE

Welcome to our latest monthly column, Mom on the Street (ya know, like Man on the Street). Each month, we'll be
asking moms just like you for a slice of their sage advice, insider tips or tried-and-true wisdom in the hopes that their
unique brand of Mother inspires, assuages, calms strengthens and even amuses yours.

This month's question: This issue is called "In Bloom." What are you working toward accomplishing
right now—what's in bloom for you?

Eva and Mommy

Susan Belfer is the founder and driving force behind Belfer Communications, a progressive public relations and event planning firm in Long Branch, New Jersey. Here's what this expecting mother of a three year old with one on the way had to say:

“My belly is blooming (I'm close to three months pregnant), my daughter Eva is blooming and my career is blooming. I hope to maintain my balance of work, mommyhood and, of course, fulfilling my 'wifely duties.' I love mentoring my three year old daughter as she emerges into an extraordinary little woman with manners, wit and sass.

Balancing family and career will always be an endless challenge, but over the years I've learned to make smarter choices. I've gained so much insight and knowledge from other role models in my life and I thank them every day—in my own little way—by taking care of myself. I'm cooking and baking my favorite things to get through the winter months and maintaining a healthy pregnancy. My birthday is in April, so I have always enjoyed celebrating this season, which has given me the impetus to start the fresher more productive outlook.

I'm also in the process of building my new website www.belfercom.com and working in turbo time.

So, who said being a working parent is easy? Just remember to listen, don't sweat the small stuff, be compassionate and tell your little angels you love them. Kisses and hugs are good, too.”

Christina Mallet is super-talented and much sought-after photographer (www.christinamallet.com) living in Seattle, Washington. Here's what this new mother had to say:

“Hopefully, blooming leads to more booming because my new business is blooming right now. I'm shooting a lot of blooming bodies, from pregnant ladies to children. Managing to capture other people's blossoming bodies and babies has made the role of Mother all the more challenging. I need to constantly remind myself to be present in the moment and attentive to my own blossom, my little guy Xander Foli, who's seven months old.”

Kathy Emmons is a mother of two and the marketing and public relations manager for the hot maternity, baby and kids über-store babystyle (www.babystyle.com) in Los Angeles. Here's what she had to say:

“With this new season, what I hope I have already accomplished is that I have made an impact in the lives of my children. We work so hard to instill great values in our kids: make the right choices, be responsible for your actions, pay it forward. Do I still have more work to do? Absolutely! We all do and always will—we’re moms. No matter how old our children are, we as moms will always be their teacher, their number one fan, cheerleader, publicist, stylist, counselor, doctor and nurse. But the biggest reward for me at this time in my life is that I get to sit back and watch. And oh what a wonderful sight I see!  My children make me “bloom” every day with love and admiration for their accomplishments. What more can I ask for?”

Stacey Zinman is the founder of Bloom Love (www.bloomlove.com), a hip kiddie clothing line that's high end, but still affordable. Here's what this Los Angeles mother had to say:

“Right now what we want most and are working on is to make sure Bloom Love is affordable to everyone. When most people hear that our children’s clothing line is a celebrity favorite, they just assume that they can't afford it. This isn’t the case—we have worked very hard with our production overseas to bring our prices to an average that people can afford without our quality being compromised.”
