Fair Trade Sports Equipment One of the best parts of springtime is that kids transition from their cold-weather activities, like video game playing and TV watching, to going outside to run around in the fresh air. Having two boys, their outdoor playtime invariably involves some sort of team sport and, of course, a ball. We’re known to have the “greenest house on the block,” and the neighborhood kids love my vegan desserts (seriously, vegan “cheesecake” rocks). This year, my boys have an eco-friendly soccer ball (who knew?) from Fair Trade Sports. They have a whole line of balls, which also includes footballs and basketballs. All of their products are made with high-quality, eco-certified synthetic leather and conform to international standards. Going green has now become child’s play. ($34.99, Fair Trade Eco Soccer Ball, www.theultimategreenstore.com) |

Natural Colored Pencils by Eco-Kids My boys love to do arts and crafts (probably because I don’t let them watch too much TV), and they love these eco-friendly colored pencils from Eco-Kids. There are 10 pencils in all and they are made from recycled newspaper with wax and natural mineral dyes. I love the fact that they are lead-free and nontoxic. ($12, www.mightynest.com) |

Eco Lips Face Stick Whether it’s hot or cold outside, my lips always seem to be chapped—unless I use the Face Stick by Eco Lips. Complete with a handy clip that I fasten to my handbag, this SPF 30 face-saver moisturizes and heals dry skin and lips. I also use it on my kids every few hours while they’re playing outside—that is, if I can catch them. ($8.99, www.ecolips.com) |
